The Riksbank’s archives
The Riksbank is the world’s oldest central bank and has a long history of operations that is documented in an extensive archive.
The Riksbank’s archives are based on the minutes of the meetings of the General Council and the Executive Board. The older minutes also include documents received by the Council and archived copies of outgoing letters.
The Riksbank’s general ledger and extensive statistical material are available in separate archive series. More recent documents (since 1993) have mainly been recorded in a centralised main register.
In addition, there is a wealth of economic, legal and historical material. This has been collected from the different departments of the bank.
Archive catalogue
All archival material before 1900 is deposited with the Swedish National Archives. All archival material after 1900 is stored at the Riksbank’s premises.
The Riksbank’s archives are available for research. The older parts can be ordered via the National Archives Database to the National Archives reading room in Täby.
Archival documents from the period 1900-1998 that are stored at the Riksbank are listed and also searchable in the national archive database at the National Archives. If you want to research the material, please contact the archives function.
All searches in more recent lists (after 1998) are carried out with the aid of the Riksbank’s archive function.
